The Olde Mecklenburg Brewery to release their Rauchbier on Thursday, Feb. 7

For two years, I’ve been harassing my friends at The Olde Mecklenburg Brewery to brew a Rauchbier. These smoked beers, which originated in Bamberg, Germany, are among my favorite beer styles.

I’m happy to say that, as part of their new Beer of the Month program, the brewery will be releasing a Rauchbier at the taproom on Thursday, Feb. 7 at 5:30 p.m. The beer won’t be the only thing smoked that day: there will also be cigars, a meat and cheese plate, smoked sausages and a smoked duck and andouille gumbo.

Unlike the Fat Boy Baltic Porter that was released in January, this one will not be bottled. Growlers will be available, however, and the brewery anticipates having the beer on tap for at least a couple of weeks.

  1. Super stoked to try their Rauchbier. Made a pilgrimage to Bamberg last March and look forward to seeing what a local brewer can do.

    • Wow, Bryan, I’m jealous. Bamberg is very high on my list of potential beer trips. Did you get to visit Schlenkerla and Spezial?

      Thanks for reading!

      • I hit both of them while I was there. Not to self-promote, but I posted about the trip over on my blog. I highly recommend going.
